Security Operations Certificate II is a three (3) week course delivered with personal face-to-face interaction and instruction.

Pre-Requisites and Entry requirements:

There are no pre-requisites for enrolment into Special Operations Certificate II.

Minimum Age:

At the commencement of the course, all students must legally be older than (or exactly) 18 years of age.

Language, Learning & Numeracy

 At our Skills Training College, lessons are delivered in English. All students must possess and display the appropriate written and spoken English levels and numeracy skills to complete the course successfully and be suitable for employment within the private security sector.

Possessing the minimum level of English required by all students is determined by the LLN Assessment. The assessment will occur at your Pre-Training Review.

Physical requirements:

Security is a physically demanding career. The required fitness level may vary from job to job. But remember, if you’re going to be working in the Security Operations industry you’ll need to be able to respond to situations, people, visual and auditory cues. You’ll also need to be able to constantly assess and monitor the surrounding environment.

You must be physically strong and fit.

You must possess a calm and controlled demeanour.

You must be able to perform various physical tasks daily (including walking deceptively long distances.)

You must be able to stand in a stationary position or be on your feet for extended periods.

To demonstrate competency and receive your nationally recognised qualifications in Special Operations Certificate II, you must successfully complete the fourteen (14) core units listed below:

CPPSEC2106 Protect self and others using basic defensive techniques

CPPSEC2107 Patrol premises to monitor property and maintain security

CPPSEC2108 Screen people, personal effects and items to maintain security

You may also require Optional Extras to add to your existing list of credentials. While the security industry is growing, it is also highly selective of the people it employs. Having additional skills your competitors do not is an advantage. In some cases, extra certificates are required to work in a specific venue or at a specific location.

SITHFAB002 Provide responsible service of alcohol

Upon obtaining your security licence, you are required to complete an additional RSA unit to gain employment at licensed premises.


SITHGAM001 Provide responsible gambling service

Once you have obtained your security licence, if you wish to work in an environment with gaming facilities such as casinos or clubs with poker machines, you will need to gain an additional RSG unit.

This course meets the (CBS) licensing requirements for the following endorsements:⁣

 Successful completion of your Special Operations Certificate II provides you with nationally recognised certification. You can then apply to the South Australia Consumer Business Service (CBS Police Licensing and Regulation Division) for a Private Security Individual Licence in the categories of Crowd Controller, Unarmed Security Guard, and Control Room Operator.


On completion of this course, it is strongly recommended that you go on to obtain other security qualifications that will widen your employment opportunities. Suggested options include:

  • AVI20118 Certificate II in Transport Security Protection
  • Firearms and Defensive Tactics for the Security Industry – QLD only
  • Industry Skill Sets – Bodyguard, Cash-in-Transit, Batons and Handcuffs – QLD only
  • CPP30619 Certificate III in Investigative Services
  • Responsible Service of Alcohol (required for crowd controllers) – Available in QLD only
  • OHS White Card (required for a number of static guard positions) – Available in QLD only

South Australia

South Australia licensing requirements information can be found here.

Congratulations on obtaining your security licence. You are now required to complete an additional RSA unit in order to gain employment at a licensed premises.

Once you have your RSA certification, you can apply to the Commissioner of Liquor and Gambling for additional licensing.

Old CPP20212 Certificate II in Security Operations qualifications will not be accepted for new licences after 1 August 2020.

Licensing Information- Australia Wide


Successful participants from Queensland will be eligible to apply to the Office of Fair Trading for a Class 1 Security Providers Licence with the licence functions:

  • Security Officer (Unarmed)
  • Monitoring (Monitoring no longer requires additional training as a function of your security licence.)
  • Crowd Controller

The Office of Fair Trading processes QLD Security Providers Licence Applications after completion of your course.

Additional costs that are not included in the course fee can include fees for the licence application and criminal background check which will include fingerprinting. These fees are paid directly to the Office of Fair Trading along with your licence application.

Licensed Crowd Controllers and Bodyguards in QLD must complete refresher training every three (3) years.

Since 21 January 2020, for unarmed security officers & crowd controller licences, all training must include the fourteen (14) core modules from CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations for new licences.

Northern Territory

Information about licensing in the Northern Territory can be found on the Northern Territory Government Website.

An NT Police fingerprint check, including spent convictions for the purpose of security through SAFE NT, is mandatory to meet NT licensing requirements.

In 2022, only units from the new Cert II CPP20218 will be accepted.

New South Wales

In NSW, CPP20218 – Certificate II in Security operations is only mandatory for new security licences. Although if an existing licence is allowed to lapse, the licence holder may be required to completer the security operations training again to be eligible for a re-issued licence – you’ll need to contact the Security Licensing & Enforcement Directorate (SLED) to check. In 2022, all RTOs will be delivering the new Security Guard Course unarmed guard and crowd control certificate.

Evidence of training that has not been provided to date is valid for 12 months from the completion date. You do not need new training if renewing your licence, unless it expires or is cancelled for a period of 12 months or more. If the aforementioned occurred, you would have to reapply, and you will have to provide the new training certificates.

You will be required to undertake the entire Security Operations Certificate II course.

Western Australia

We will provide you with the knowledge and skills required to help pass the WA Police examination you will need to obtain a license from WA Police examination to obtain a license in Perth, and all WA.
