Our HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation course combines simple pre-course preparation with practical, hands-on training to ensure you gain the skills needed to respond effectively during a cardiac emergency.
Before attending the session, you will receive a Learner Guide that introduces the key concepts of CPR and emergency response. Reviewing this material beforehand helps make the theory clear and prepares you for the practical assessment.
During the course, you will complete practical CPR training where you will demonstrate:
• Performing CPR on adult and infant manikins
• Using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
• Responding to a cardiac emergency following Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines

You don’t need any formal academic qualifications to take this CPR course. Although you can do this first aid training if you are 14 or older, you need a signed consent form from a guardian or parent if you are under 18.
Specifically, students need the ability to:
Students must be able to kneel and perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult manikin placed on the floor. They also must be able to perform the same on an infant manikin placed on a firm surface.
International students must be on a student visa that allows them to enrol in a short course (Check with the Department of Home Affairs prior to enrolment). They must also be enrolled in a principal CRICOS course and meet English language requirements.
There are no formal prerequisites for the units included in this course. However, Skills Training College’s training and assessment delivery strategy requires that prior to the course, learners complete:
Respond to an emergency situation
Perform CPR procedures
Communicate details of the incident

This course will teach you how to perform CPR in a range of situations. The techniques you learn reflect the Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines, so you can be confident that you are learning the most up-to-date methods. Because adults and infants don’t have exactly the same anatomy, you will get hands-on training on baby, child and adult manikins. What’s more, you will also learn how to use an automatic external defibrillator (AED)
Yes. If you do the HLTAID011 or HLTAID012 first aid certificates, HLTAID009 training is included as part of those more comprehensive qualifications. And you’ll receive the same level of certification in CPR.

The HLTAID009 certificate you receive for your CPR training course is valid for exactly 12 months from the date of issue – keeping with the guidelines of the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC). After that, you’ll need to do a refresher course to maintain a valid CPR certificate.
Yes, your HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation certificate will be valid in all Australian territories. NTC is an Australian RTO (#45654), and the HLTAID009 course is fully compliant with the guidelines of the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC).
