Delivery
This course has a blended delivery mode of online and face-to-face, with the face-to-face component of the course being delivered over a five consecutive day workshop, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm each day. The five day workshop consists of practical sessions delivered by an experienced security professional in the following conditions:
- Classroom based learning
- An exciting environment where you will learn invaluable skills such as defensive tactics, conflict negotiation, crowd control, and more
As part of the online component of the course, online assessment activities must be completed prior to commencing the face-to-face component of the course. The online assessment activities consists of:
- Interactive learning modules
- Multiple choice questions
- Reading materials
Please note: if you currently hold a current HLTAID011 Provide First Aid certificate and can provide evidence, your attendance is only required in five out of six of the scheduled days.
Course Details
Pre-Requisites and Entry requirements
There are no formal pre-requisites or entry requirements for enrolling into this course. However, you must be eligible to apply for a security licence which means you must not have been convicted of a disqualifying offence in the past 10 years, where a conviction was recorded.
Minimum Age:
The minimum age at commencement of this course is 18 years of age.
Language, Learning & Numeracy
Students will need to have an appropriate level of written and spoken English as well as numeracy skills suitable for employment within the private security industry. At your pre-training review, you will be provided with an LLN Assessment to determine if you have a sufficient level of literacy and numeracy in order to undertake this course.
Physical requirements:
Students should be physically fit with good vision and hearing, and the ability to respond quickly to cues. You will need to be able to stand on your feet for extended periods of time – sometimes many hours – and be able to perform a range of physical tasks every day.

In addition, the CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations provides a pathway to further learning and work in various security roles and settings including, but not limited to:

- Checking bags at concerts and sporting events
- Screening passengers at airports

- CPPSEC2101 Apply effective communication skills to maintain security
- CPPSEC2102 Apply legal and procedural requirements to work effectively within a security team
- CPPSEC2103 Apply WHS, emergency response and evacuation procedures to maintain security
- CPPSEC2104 Apply risk assessment to select and carry out response to security risk situations
- CPPSEC2105 Provide quality services to a range of security clients
- CPPSEC2106 Protect self and others using basic defensive techniques
- CPPSEC2107 Patrol premises to monitor property and maintain security
- CPPSEC2108 Screen people, personal effects and items to maintain security
- CPPSEC2108 Screen people, personal effects and items to maintain security
- CPPSEC2109 Monitor and control access and exit of persons and vehicles from premises
- CPPSEC2110 Monitor and control individual and crowd behaviour to maintain security

Licensing Information
Queensland
Successful participants will be eligible to apply to the Office of Fair Trading for a Class 1 Security Providers Licence with the licence functions:

Security Officer (Unarmed)

Monitoring (Monitoring no longer requires additional training in order to be added as a function to your security licence).

Crowd Controller
After completing your course, your QLD Security Providers Licence application will be processed by the Office of Fair Trading.
Please note: You will incur additional fees from the Office of Fair Trading for your licence application, criminal history check and fingerprinting. These fees are not included in the course fee.
In Queensland, licensed Crowd Controllers and Bodyguards are required to undergo refresher training every three years.
