Delivery
Our security course uses blended delivery methods, combining online self-paced learning with practical, practical, face-to-face training. The in-person component of the course is delivered as a series of six full-day workshops, normally running from 9am till 5pm on the given day. The sessions are delivered by professional, highly qualified trainers with years of industry experience and involve:
- Classroom-based training – both theory and practice
- An engaging learning environment for invaluable skills such as defence tactics, negotiating conflict, controlling a crowd, and much more
The online learning component may be completed from home at a time and pace that suit you, provided they are completed by the beginning of your face-to-face sessions. The information learned in the online content will be required knowledge once the course commences. The online learning material consists of:
- Interactive learning modules
- Reading materials
- Multiple choice questions
You should note that students who have previously completed an accredited HLTAID011 Provide First Aid course are only required at five of the six full-day training seminars, as they have already completed the first aid component of the training – provided their first aid certification is still current.
Course Details
Pre-Requisites and Entry requirements
There are no specific entry requirements or training prerequisites to enrol in the CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations course. The main restriction is that participants must be eligible to apply for and obtain a security licence. This means that the student cannot have disqualifying offence reconded against them as a conviction.
Minimum Age:
Participants in the CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations course must be a minimum of 18 years old.
Language, Learning & Numeracy
To undertake CPP20218 training, students will need literacy and numeracy skills of a sufficient level to be employed in a private security role. During your pre-training review, you’ll be given a language, learning & numeracy assessment to determine your current skill level in these areas and see if the training is appropriate for you.
Physical requirements:
To work in security requires a certain degree of physical ability, and this requirement is also true of the CPP20218 training. Students should have a reasonable level of physical fitness and be able to stay on their feet for prolonged periods – sometimes hours at a time. They also need to be able to respond swiftly to visual and sound cues, and perform a range of physical tasks throughout the day.

Licensing Information
Queensland
Upon completing the course, Queensland-based participants may then apply to the Office of Fair Trading to be granted a Class 1 Security Providers Licence. The licence functions this provides are:

Security Officer (Unarmed)

Monitoring (Monitoring no longer requires additional training in order to be added as a function to your security licence).

Crowd Controller
Applications for a QLD Security Providers Licence will be processed by the Office of Fair Trading, provided you have successfully completed your CPP20218 certificate.
Please take note that this application process comes with additional fees for processing, criminal history checks and fingerprinting. These fees are entirely independent of the fees for your course.
It is also a requirement in Queensland that licensed crowd controllers and bodyguards renew their training certification every third year to remain certified.
